Jeanette was born on October 12, 1939 in Rural Spencer, South Dakota on her grandparents' farm, also known as the Henry Tegels Farm, to Clarence and Mathilda (Bornhorst) Tegels.
As a teenager, Jeanette met the love of her life, Charles Carlin. They met on Jeanette's Aunt Margaret and Uncle Art's (Tegels) farm, where Charlie was a hired farmhand. Jeanette and Charlie married on Monday, June 18, 1956 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD and enjoyed 40 years of marriage. During their marriage, Jeanette supported Charlie in his military career and followed him as a devoted military wife as they practiced their faith, raised their six children and enjoyed many activities together, especially playing cards and dancing.
Jeanette had an adventurous spirit. During her marriage, Jeanette would follow Charlie to five military bases as they raised their family, ultimately, moving back to Mitchell, SD when he retired in 1975. She was proud to tell stories of raising her six children, earning her GED, and later bachelor's degree, and working for Puetz Construction for 11 years as she ventured to establish her own career path. She was devoted to caring for Charlie until his passing on April 29, 1996.
Jeanette loved fishing, dancing, spending time with her children and grandchildren, singing in the choir, and hosting her family during the holidays. She enjoyed sharing the stories that followed each adventure. Always on the move, she explored other hobbies including crafting, cake decorating, playing cards, crocheting, and BINGO. She stayed busy in her retirement making stocking caps, crocheting blankets and crocheting around hangers, sewing and embroidering on kitchen towels, among other activities. Her family has always appreciated all the hard work she's put into these gifts that we have received.
Jeanette loved her children and supported them in their endeavors. The lessons and stories of her adventurous spirit are held in their hearts. Her children include: Steven (JoSee) Carlin, Sioux Falls, SD; Joan (Dale) Lund, Canton, SD; Rosemary (Johnny) Parker, Parker, SD; Sharon (Daniel) Lauck, Salem, SD; Kathleen (Michael) Wollmann, Olivet, SD; Donna (Dennis) Dunn, Sioux Falls, SD. Jeanette shared her love with her 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Jeanette also loved and was loved by her siblings, Elaine (John) Carlin Graettinger, IA; Dwayne (Ruth), Tegels, Mitchell; Carol (Otto) Oehlerking, Rapid City, SD; Colleen DeJong, Mitchell, SD; Pam (Marc) Hammero, Austin, MN. Jeanette also has many relatives who loved her.
