Jean Agnes Verhulst, age 84, of Bridgewater, SD died Thursday, September 28, 2023 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD. Memorial services will be 5:30 PM Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Greenhill Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Jean was born on December 9, 1938 in Aberdeen SD to Chester and Agnes Bjonerud. After graduating from Aberdeen Central High School, she attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls SD She transferred to Northern State in Aberdeen SD, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education. She taught kindergarten for one year in Selby, SD. After she was married, Jean was a housewife and substitute teacher.

Jean was united in marriage on June 17, 1962 to Harold Verhulst. Jean and Harold were blessed with two children, Thomas and Kristi.

Grateful for having shared in her life are her son Thomas and wife Jennifer, their children, Lauren Miller (husband Bo), Marin Faust (husband Mark), and Olivia Verhulst. Her daughter Kristi Carmody and husband Brian, their children, Megan McManus (husband Chet) and Kassie McQuillan (husband Sean). She also was blessed with 7 great grandchildren, Mia, Landree, Kambrie McManus, Finnegan McQuillan, Logan and Dylan Miller and Nora Faust, her brother Gordon Bjonerud, sister in-law Corrine Verhulst, sister-in-law Beatrice Verhulst, as well as many nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, Chester and Agnes Bjonerud, her brother Corwin (Nancy), Sister Joan, her sister-in-law Setsue Bjonerud and her in-laws Clarence and Esther Verhulst.

Jean's greatest achievement in life was being a minister's wife for over 50 years including church parishes in Yankton, Chamberlain, Milbank Sturgis and Tea. Jean enjoyed being with her family, traveling, and participating in church activities.
