Obituary
Jean Louise Schlenker (Hartman) , 73, of Mitchell, SD died surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, in Mitchell, SD with burial at Greenhill Cemetery in Alexandria, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Jean L. Schlenker, daughter of Oscar and Arlene Hartman, was born April 1, 1942 on the family farm in Hewitt, MN. As a child she moved with her family to Mitchell. Jean attended Plano School graduating in 1960. After her graduation, Jean was employed at Woelfel Jewelry Store.
Jean was united in marriage with Darald Schlenker on June 24, 1962 in Alexandria, SD. Darald was employed at Gamble's and the couple made their home in Webster, SD, Marshall, MN, Denver, CO and later Gillette, WY. While in Gillette, Jean was employed by the Gillette School System as a crossing guard for 25 years. The couple moved to Mitchell, SD in 2000.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Jean enjoyed camping, crafts, family history, breakfast with her family every morning, and especially attending her family and granddaughters' activities.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Darald Schlenker, Mitchell, SD, two daughters, Sandi (Robert) Birgen, Gillette, WY, Patricia (Patrick) Sparling, Columbus, NE; two granddaughters, Megan and Stephanie Sparling, both of Columbus, NE; her eight siblings, Alvin (Sonya) Hartman, Brandon, SD, Dennis (Diane) Hartman, Mitchell, SD, Shirlee (Randy) Burmeister, Mt. Vernon, SD, Marlys (Peter) Weins, Mitchell, SD, Marilyn Hart, Mitchell, SD, Joyce (Tim) Graff, Sioux Falls, SD, Bruce (Judy) Hartman, Worthing, SD, Timothy Hartman, Mitchell, SD and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; a brother-in-law, John Hart and a sister-in-law, Jeninel Hartman.
Memorials may be directed to the Mitchell Heart and Sole Cancer Walk.
