Janice K. Schoenfelder, age 83, of Alexandria, SD (formerly of Dimock) died Monday, November 23, 2020 at Avera Borman Manor in Parkston, SD. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock with burial at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Janice (Smith) Schoenfelder, daughter of George and Margaret (Endres) Smith, was born May 28, 1937 in Mitchell, SD. She attended Notre Dame in Mitchell until 1946 when Janice moved with her family to Alexandria, SD. She graduated from Hanson High School in 1955.

Janice was united in marriage with Edwin "Bud" Schoenfelder on November 24, 1955 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria, SD. The couple farmed southwest of Dimock from 1955 until 2001. While on the farm, Janice helped Bud with farm chores along with raising chickens, gardening and canning. She was a talented seamstress and made all of her daughter's clothes.

In 2001 the couple retired from farming. Bud died in 2006, but Janice continued to live on the acreage until 2009, when she moved to Alexandria, SD. While in Alexandria, she continued gardening and enjoyed hosting events for her family. Janice was an excellent cook and baker and enjoyed following the Alexandria Baseball Team and attending the Smith gatherings. In 2018, Janice became a resident at Avera Borman Manor in Parkston to be closer to her daughter.

She was a former of St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria and SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock.

Grateful for having shared are her daughter, Becky (Tom) Grajkowske, Parkston, SD; a grandson, Adam (Emily) Grajkowske and their children, Mason and Sydney; Overland Park, KS; three brothers, Jon (Kaye) Smith, Alexandria, SD, Tom (Kori) Smith, Charlotte, NC, Fred (Karen) Smith, Alexandria, SD; two sisters, Jonell (James) Jarding, Sioux Falls, SD, Camille (James) Davies, Alexandria, SD; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud in 2006; her parents; and a sister, Patricia Schroeder.
