Janice Ann Kerwin, age 72, of Mitchell, SD died Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Good Samaritan Luther Manor. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon with Rev D. Wayne Huber officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM.
Jan Earl was born May 1, 1938 to Orville and Thelma (Malde) Earl. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School. Jan was united in marriage with Robert Kerwin on June 8, 1963 at St. James Catholic Church in Chamberlain, SD.
Jan graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University with a degree in elementary education. Jan was a teacher and touched many lives during her career. She started in a country school teaching different grade levels and in the Chamberlain School System as well.
She taught preschool at the First Lutheran Child Learning Center in Mitchell. After retiring in 2000, Jan became very involved with her church group and devoted numerous hours to the beautiful flowers in her yard. She also enjoyed camping with her family.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Robert Kerwin, Mitchell, SD; a daughter, Leah Kerwin, Sioux Falls, SD; a son, Kristopher (Connie) Kerwin, Sioux Falls, SD; her mother, Thelma Earl, Woonsocket, SD; a sister Jeanne (Jack) Berry, Mitchell, SD; a brother, Gary Earl, Mt. Vernon, SD; and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Orville Earl; and her sister-in-law, Alberta Earl.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon in her honor.
