Janet M. Jarding age 71, of Alexandria, SD died Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Monday, January 25, 2016 at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Sunday at the church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.
Janet was born on August 12, 1944 in Spencer, SD to Elner and Eileen (Gosmire) Tuschen. She spent her youth enjoying life on the farm in the company of her brothers and sisters. She graduated with honors from Farmer High School in 1962. Janet also earned her RN nursing degree from Presentation College and was a nurse at the State Hospital in Yankton. Janet loved to travel and had the opportunity to see many places during these years, often in the company of her dear aunt, Connie.
On December 30, 1970 Janet married Robert Jarding in Farmer, SD. They made their life on a farm southwest of Alexandria. To this union, they were blessed with 8 children. Janet's greatest joy was her family including the son-in-laws and daughter-in-laws that she thought of as her own. She shared a unique and special bond with each one of them and her grandchildren. Janet was a kind, compassionate woman with a very strong faith. She was a member of St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church to which she was an active member of the church community, including the Sacred Heart League. Janet loved sharing her faith and taught religious education for over 40 years. She was a wonderful cook and loved to garden. Sundays were often spent with the kids and grandkids around the kitchen at the farm.
Janet is survived by her husband of 45 years, Bob, her children, Suzette (David) Martin, Edmonds, WA, Patrick (Kristen) Jarding, Alexandria, SD, Tanya (Buck) Bartscher, Mitchell, SD, John (Nicole) Jarding, Mitchell, SD, Aaron (Jessica) Jarding, Hartford, SD, Ryan (Candise) Jarding, Alexandria, SD, Vance (Anita) Jarding, Alexandria, SD, and Katrina (Kenny) Hostler, Mt. Vernon, SD; her 22 grandchildren; her siblings and their families, Kenny (Jan) Tuschen, Allen (Marsha) Tuschen, Sharon (Gary) Jarding, Carmen (Bob) Rotert, and Sandy (Dave) Kayser. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father in-law, Arthur and Irene Jarding, twin brothers in infancy, one nephew, Michael, and one niece, Holly.
