James Peter Weber, age 86, of Mitchell, SD died Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at Zion Lutheran Church with burial at 1:00 PM at Eventide Cemetery in Woonsocket, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
James Peter Weber, son of Fred J. Weber and Applonia (Schoenfelder) Weber, was born January 24, 1924 Hutchinson County, SD. He attended school at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School in Dimock. He entered the US Army and was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. Jim was honorably discharged on October 31, 1951.
Jim was united in marriage with Esther Schmiedt on June 5, 1952 in Woonsocket, SD. The couple made their home in Mitchell for a short time. He farmed in the Mitchell area from 1952 to 1975. In 1976, they moved to Gillette, WY where Jim was employed in the coal mines. He continued with working in Gillette, WY until 1993 when they returned to Mitchell, SD. Jim enjoyed horses and story telling.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the American Legion and the VFW.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Esther Weber, Mitchell, SD; eight children, Randy (Alita Pfeifle) Weber, Woonsocket, SD, Kathy Krog, Sioux Falls, SD, Lynn (Lori) Weber, Sheridan, WY, Craig (Barb) Weber, Gillette, WY, Tim (Haydee) Weber, Santee, CA, Bobby Weber, Atlanta, GA, Brenda (Bart) Griffin, Hernando, MS; 20 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; six siblings, Vi (Al) Termeer, Phoenix, AZ, Adeline Thuringer, Parkston, SD, Pauline (Elmer) Muntefering, Parkston, SD, Paul Weber, Mitchell, SD, Irene (Vern) Wipf, Mitchell, SD, Sally Miiller, Mitchell, SD.
He was preceded in death by a son, Rick Weber; two brothers; two sister; and his parents.
