James A. Pierson age 83 of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at his residence. Memorial services will be 1:00 PM Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday at the Will Funeral Chapel.
James A. Pierson, son of Albert and Florence (Setterstrom) Pierson, was born January 22, 1936 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up in Mitchell and attended school there. Jim graduated from Mitchell High School in 1954. After he graduated from high school, Jim enlisted in the US Navy. He was united in marriage with Margaret (Peg) Cowan on June 7, 1958 in Newport RI. Jim was a Vietnam Veteran serving on multiple US Navy ships during his 20 years of service. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Senior Chief Fire Control Technician.
The couple returned to Mitchell, SD where he worked with his brother in the upholstery business. He later purchased the business named Quality Upholstery and continued running the business for 20 plus years.
In his retirement Jim enjoyed playing golf and darts, traveling and anything with computers. Jim truly enjoyed time spent with the Thirsty's Crew.
He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Moose Lodge.
Grateful for having shared his life are his three children Rick (Mary) Pierson, Hastings, MN, Kelli (Timothy) Helm, New Hope, MN, Scott (Julie) Pierson, Hartford, SD; six grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Dan Pierson, Washougal, WA; a sister, Deanna Powers, Mitchell, SD, and his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents, and two sisters, Evelyn and Marilyn.
