Obituary


James Lee Hoffman, 49, of Arvada, CO formerly of Plankinton, SD died suddenly of an apparent heart attack Friday March 13, 2009 in Blackhawk, CO. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at St. Johns Catholic Church in Plankinton, SD with burial at St. Johns Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at St. Johns Catholic Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel of Mitchell.

Jim Hoffman, son of James Red and Ida Hoffman, was born on November 11, 1959 in Mitchell, SD. He graduated from Plankinton High School in 1978.

Jim was united in marriage with Tammy Carroll on October 14, 1978 in Plankinton, SD. The couple made their home in Plankinton for over 25 years. They moved to Mitchell in 2004 after building a new home there. In 2007, they moved to Arvada, CO to be closer to their children.

Jims past employment included a youth supervisor at the South Dakota State Training School, weed supervisor, Civil Defense Director for Aurora County, farmer/rancher, first pressman for Graphic Packaging and was currently working in the warehouse department at the Ameristar Casino in Blackhawk, CO. During his first few months of his employment with the casino, Jim was awarded with the honor of Team Member of the Month for his dedication and loyalty to his department.

Jims favorite pastimes were being outdoors, landscaping, watching the Green Bay Packers, and listening to Neil Young. He enjoyed waterskiing, hunting, fishing, spending time with his dog, Lucy, and most importantly being with his friends and family.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Tammy; two daughters, Tori (Hoffman) Grode and her husband, Travis, Arvada, CO and Brandi Hoffman, Lakewood, CO; a granddaughter, Isabelle Grode, Arvada, CO; his parents, Red and Ida Hoffman, Plankinton, SD, a brother, Jerry Hoffman and his wife, Hilary, Plankinton, SD; his mother-in-law, Shirley Carroll, Mitchell, SD; and numerous relatives.
