James (Dale) Fraser, age 89 of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Plankinton, SD) died Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, October 2, 2011 at Storla Lutheran Church, rural Letcher, SD with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Saturday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Dale Fraser, son of William and Emma (Belding) Fraser, was born in rural Plankinton, SD on April 9, 1922. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Dale graduated from Plankinton High School in 1940. His father died shortly after his high school graduation, so Dale became the head of the family and began farming with the assistance of his grandfather on the family farm. He was united in marriage with Lucille Selland on June 15, 1947 at Storla Lutheran Church, rural Letcher, SD. The couple continued on the family farm until 1984. JD Concrete was established in 1980 and in the mid 1980's Dale became very involved in the business. He continued being active in the business until his late 70's. Dale was a member of Storla Lutheran Church, and served on the Belford School Board and the Belford Township Board for several years. He also served on the Aurora County Soil Conservation Board. He enjoyed antique tractors, collecting guns, history and was an avid reader. Survivors include his two children, Pamela (Richard) Johnson, Sioux Falls, SD and their daughter Erin Johnson also of Sioux Falls, John (Kathy) Fraser, Mitchell, SD and their children, Tiffany Fraser, Mitchell, SD, Courtney (Nick) Hohn, Mitchell, SD, Justin (Kari) Fraser, Mitchell, SD, Jason Fraser, Mitchell, SD; a great grandchild, Brooklyn Hohn; a brother, Bud Fraser, Costa Rica; two sister, Ruth Mauer, Molalla, OR, Wilma (Lynn) Nick Brighton, CO; a sister-in-law, Shirley Anderson, Starbuck, MN ; two brother-in-laws, Arlan (Barb) Selland, Letcher, SD, Doyle (Sonja) Selland, Letcher, SD; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille on November 12, 2006; his parents; a brother, William in infancy, a brother Earl; and a sister, June Hinkley. In lieu of flowers memorials will be directed to the Storla Lutheran Church.
