James "Jim" Enfield, age 56, of Letcher, SD died Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, SD after a short battle with lung cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the Letcher Community Church with burial at Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. James Melvin Enfield, son of Maynard and Shirley (Hylland) Enfield, was born July 3, 1955 in Huron, SD. He grew up on a farm near Letcher, SD. Jim attended Mayhew Country and Letcher Elementary School graduating from Letcher High School in 1973. Jim was united in marriage with Jolene Lachnit on October 6, 1973 in Mitchell, SD at First Lutheran Church. They celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary last October. Jim farmed his whole life with his father and sons. He also worked for the Letcher Farmers Coop Elevator, Sanborn County Implement, Trail King, Custom Combining and Cenex Harvest States for the last four years up until his death. Jim loved to fish and hunt. Any chance he got, he would go fishing, usually at Minniconjou along the Missouri River with his dad, family or friends. He always enjoyed a good western and any NCIS episode. Jim looked forward to seeing his grandkids and he was pretty proud of have twin grandsons. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Jolene Enfield, Letcher, SD; a daughter, Teri (Tory) Smith, Blunt, SD; two sons, Justin Enfield, Letcher, SD and Jonathan (Jennifer) Enfield, Williston, ND; four grandchildren, Treyton, Tavery, Tucker and Tamryn, all of Blunt, SD; his mother, Shirley Enfield, Letcher, SD; two sisters, Peggy Dunn, Hampton, TN and Angie McCain, Plankinton, SD; a brother, Dave (Darla) Enfield, Woonsocket, SD; brothers-in-law, Craig (Margaret) Lachnit, WA, Mike (Marcia) Lachnit, Alexandria, SD and Dave (Julie) Lachnit, Mitchell, SD; an aunt, Mary (Cecil) Luckett, Letcher, SD; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his father, Maynard Enfield; in-laws, Ronald and Eunice Lachnit; a son, Brian Enfield; a niece, Melissa Lachnit; a cousin, Mike Hunter, and paternal and maternal grandparents.
