James Arthur Dorman, 81, of Mitchell, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. Per James' request, no services are planned. He will be laid to rest with this wife, Jeanette, in the Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell, SD.

James was born on March 21, 1944 in Chamberlain, SD to Arthur and Marguerite (Burke) Dorman. He enlisted in the Navy on July, 14, 1961. James met Jeanette Ann Gouviea while stationed in Hawaii. The two fell in love and were married in Honolulu on February 3, 1968. To this union two daughters were born.

After retiring from the Navy on January 31, 1983 the family moved to South Dakota. James became an addiction counselor in several different cities and states. James retired in October 2006 and the family settled in Mitchell, SD. He spent his time reading, watching golf and the news, as well as taking care of Jeanette until her passing in 2022.

James is survived by his two daughters; Ruth Ann Dorman, Michelle (Bart) Jacobson, granddaughter, Holly Amanda Kirkland, one great granddaughter, Nevaeh Hunter, sister, Sheila (Dee) Diderkson, sister in-law, Collene Heisner, brother in-law, Dick Painter, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Jeanette, three brothers; Bill Heisner, Dick Heisner, Larry Dorman, and sister, Dusty Painter.
