Obituary

J acqueline Holder, only daughter of Florence Holder was born February 17 th , 1927, in Sioux City, IA. She grew up in Mt. Vernon, SD where she attended country school until the 4 th grade. Jackie lived with her mother and grandfather until their deaths. Jackie then lived in her own home in Mt. Vernon with the help of many friends in the community, in particular Delores and Shirley Wermers and Ruth Deinert. Having grown up on a farm, Jackie had a great interest and vast knowledge of farming, farm animals and pets. Until recently, she loved to go for rides in the country to check the local fields and livestock. She was clever and industrious and told stories of how she found ways to meet her basic needs, which always amazed her friends.

She moved to Mitchell at the age of 61 and lived independently at Greenridge  Apartments for most of this time. Last August she moved to Firesteel Healthcare Center due to a broken arm. Jackie always made her own choices and was usually very clear about what she felt was best. She was generally right. With the support of her friends at LifeQuest she was able to live comfortably and experience some new opportunities. This included travel to Minnesota to visit friends, take a ferry boat ride on the Missouri River, and vacation in the Black Hills. Generally, Jackie preferred to stay home, and have friends visit her so she could show off her latest addition to her many collections.

Over the years she had many hobbies and interest. In her younger years, she enjoyed caring for the animals on the farm. She loved all animals especially horses. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with friends, reading the newspaper, talking about farming, working on woodworking, fishing, crafting and shopping. She had many collections including John Deere, horses, chickens, doll, and a variety of other animal figurines.

Jackie will always be remembered as loving, kind hearted woman. She never forgot anyone or anything typically remembering her friends with a call, a card or gift on Christmas of birthdays.

Jackie is survived by many friends in the Mitchell and Mt. Vernon communities. She was preceded in death by her mother (Florence) and grandfather (Fred).
