Irvin J. Muntefering 88 of Mitchell died Saturday April 30 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 3rd at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock with burial in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 PM Monday, May 2nd at the Will Funeral Chapel with prayer service beginning at 7PM. Irvin J. Muntefering, son of John and Bertha (Hohn) Muntefering, was born August 15, 1916 in rural Dimock, Hutchinson County. He attended country school and later parochial school at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School. After Irvins schooling he farmed with his father on the family farm. Irvin was united in marriage with Leona Koster on February 6, 1939 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Dimock, SD. The couple farmed west of Dimock and Irvin also continued to help on the family farm until March of 1947. The couple then moved onto the Muntefering family farm and Irvin continued to farm until 1992. After retiring Irvin and Leona made their home in Mitchell, SD. In his retirement Irvin enjoyed visiting the farm and helping from time to time. Irvins hobbies included hunting, fishing and playing cards. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. Irvin was a former member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Moose Lodge. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Leona, Mitchell, SD; four children, Darlene Branaugh and her husband, Dick, Mission Hill, SD, William J. Muntefering and his wife, Dorothy, Ethan, SD, Cheryl Stirling and her husband, Tom, Ethan, SD, Charlene Moon and her husband, Doug, Martell, NE; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Irvin Muntefering; a grandson, Dave Rusell Muntefering; a great grandson, Christian Schoenfelder; and his parents.
