Irma J. Flagel, age 93, of Sauk Rapids, MN, died Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Good Shephard Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids, MN. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Letcher, SD with burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, November 2, 2012 at Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Irma Joyce Johnson was born March 15, 1919 to Joseph N Johnson and Olga Eldora (Larson) Johnson in Elliott Township SD. She attended rural grade school and graduated from Letcher High School in 1937. Irma then attended Wessington Springs College, Wessington Springs SD for one year and received her teaching certificate. She taught in a one room school in the Forestburg area. Irma married Lloyd Flagel November 30 1941. They lived in the Letcher and Storla areas for 48 years Irma was a homemaker, worked at Storla Sunset Home for 35 years. For many years Irma wrote the Storla news for Mount Vernon and Woonsocket newspapers. She moved to Mitchell in 1992. She did child care for families in Mitchell for several years. Irma also worked at Burger King in Michell until she retired at the young age of 86. She was chosen Volunteer of the Year at the Firesteel Healthcare Center in 1997 In 2005 she moved to Brodhead WI and in 2007 she moved to Sauk Rapids MN. Irma held many offices at Trinity Lutheran Church and volunteered in many ways in the church and community. Her faith in Christ was always very important in her life. Survivors include her daughters Mata Carlson, Sauk Rapids MN, Joan (Raymond) LaVoie, Montevideo MN, and Janell (Larry) Boozier, Brodhead, WI; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Catherine Johnson;several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by husband Lloyd (1990) parents; three infant siblings; a brother Lloyd; a grandson Jesse (2004); a daughter Marcia (2004) and son in law Dale Carlson (2005) In lieu of flowers or plants, memorial gifts may be given in Irma's name to her beloved Trinity Lutheran Church.
