Irene M. McManus, age 93, of Mitchell, died June 14, 2007, at the Firesteel Healthcare. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Servicemens Memorial Cemetery. Irene was born on September 12, 1913 in Edina, Missouri to Frank and Maude (Anderson) Harper. As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm in the Mitchell area. She graduated from Mitchell High School and attended Augustana College for one year. She married Leonard Tietz in 1935 and they farmed near Alexandria, SD where they raised their family. He died on August 7, 1953. In the early 1970s, she began doing adult foster care. She married Patrick McManus on September 11, 1975. She continued the foster care for twenty-five years. Her husband died in May, of 1983. She retired in the mid 1990s. She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed plants and gardening and sitting outside. She also enjoyed embroidering. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell. She is survived by her children: Marjo Bracha and husband, Richard, Deadwood; Sharon Bauer, Champlin, MN, Arlyn Tietz and wife, Carol, and Karen Sonne and husband, Darrell all of Mitchell; eleven grandchildren twenty great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands; daughter, Norma Jean Tietz, her parents, four brothers, and three sisters.
