Irene J. Lockwood, age 92, of Mitchell, SD died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at First Lutheran Church with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Irene Johannah Lockwood was born December 19, 1921 in Akron, IA to Henry and Flora (Haage) Cassens. She attended country school close to Akron, IA. On August 5, 1941 she married Ernest Lockwood at South Sioux City, NE. She moved to Mitchell with her family in 1953. Irene worked at Armour Creamery, Council Oak Grocery, Red Owl Grocery, Den Beste Drug and White Drug. Grateful for having shared her life is her daughter, Betty L. Boone, Mitchell, SD; a son Richard (Cheryl) Lockwood, Sallisaw, OK; grandchildren, Troy (Margaret) Carling, Black Hawk, SD, Douglas (Marisa) Carling, Rapid City, SD, Travis (Angie) Lockwood, Grand Forks, ND, Lee (Laura) Lockwood, Crestwood, KY, Michele (Tim) Dressen, Roseville, MN; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Kulvik, Akron, IA; a sister-in-law, Harriett Wilde: and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Lockwood; her parents; a sister, Darlene Plueger; two brothers-in-law, John Lockwood and Darrell Plueger; a son-in-law, Ralph Boone; a granddaughter, Teresa (Lockwood) Balster; and a great granddaughter, Taylor Lockwood.
