Irene "Shirley" Johnson age 80, of Mitchell died Thursday, July 07, 2011 at Firesteel Health Care Center. Funeral service will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 11, 2011 at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, IA. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM with Pastor Carroll Torberson officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery, Castana, IA. Shirley Wilson, daughter of Harry and Katherine (Larsen) Wilson, was born October, 24, 1930 in Castana, IA. She attended school in Castana. Shirley was united in marriage with James B. Hopkins on October 24, 1945. The couple made their home in Castana and later moved to Onawa, IA. Shirley was then united in marriage with Warren Poland on September 18, 1954, and made their home in Onawa, IA. She married Don Johnson on December 27, 1971. While in Onawa, Shirley was employed at various jobs in Onawa. In her retirement she volunteered for the hospital auxiliary in the Act II Consignment Shop. In November of 2005, Shirley moved to Mitchell, SD to be closer to her children. Shirley enjoyed trips and time spent with her family, plants and animals. She was a great friend to her children. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Mitchell, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Eastern Star. Shirley was a former member of First Christian Church in Onawa, IA. Grateful for having shared her life are her six children, James (Rhonda) Hopkins, Bellville, TX, Mary Parr and her special friend, Larry Johnson, both of Mitchell, SD, Vicki Mitchell, Edmonds, WA, Janis (Tommy) Mason, Mitchell, SD, Lori (Gary) Henneke, New Ulm, TX, Roberta (Curtis) Norby, Durant, IA; 21 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Dorothy; a husband, Donald; a step-daughter, Janice; an infant grandson; a son-in-law, Craig Mitchell; and a dear friend, Neva Vaughn.
