Ida Christine Rowe, age 96, of Mitchell, SD died Monday, September 26, 2016 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Ida Christine Rowe, daughter of Sophus and Laura (Camp) Hassel, was born October 26, 1919 in rural Plankinton, SD. She grew up in the Letcher, SD area and graduated from Letcher High School in 1937. After her schooling, Ida was employed at St. Joseph Hospital in Mitchell.
Ida was united in marriage with Lewis Rowe on November 10, 1941 in Cheyenne, WY. The couple made their home in Mitchell. Ida was a homemaker and raised their children. When her children were little, she did laundry and ironing for local families. She loved to sew and made several of her children's clothes and dresses.
Ida loved to dance, listen to Big Band music and playing cards and games with her family and friends. In her later years she enjoyed line dancing. Ida will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was involved in the altar society.
Grateful for having shared her life are her five children, Sandra Bornhoft, Sioux Falls, SD, Janice (Robert) Auch, Mitchell, SD, Kathie Smith, Sheridan, WY, Gregory (Caryn) Rowe, Marion, IA, Lori Rowe, Black Hawk, SD; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Rowe, Waterloo, IA; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Conty, Denver, CO, Cleo McMillian, Denver, CO, Avis Godwin, Denver, CO; a sister-in-law, Betty Hassel, Watertown, WI; numerous nieces and nephews.
Ida was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis in 1983; a son, Dan Rowe in 2002; her parents; two brothers, Jack and Ronald Hassel; two sisters, June Cote and Leora Berlin; and a son-in-law, Gary Bornhoft.
