Howard Dale Larson was born at Wagner, South Dakota, to Harry Frank Larson and Agnes Elvira (Hult) Larson on August 13, 1928. He was the fifth born of eight children.
Early childhood was spent on a farm near Wagner, South Dakota. In 1942, the family purchased land south of Pukwana, South Dakota, and moved there at that time. In 1945, he graduated from Pukwana High School.
Enlisting in the United States Army in April of 1951, Howard served in the Korean War until discharged with honors in January of 1953. At that time, he returned to the family farm.
For the next forty-two years, he raised Angus cattle, corn, soybeans, and wheat with his younger brother, Jerome. They operated as Larson Brothers before incorporating and becoming Larkota.
Retirement in 1995 brought a move to Mitchell, South Dakota. Howard continued to help nephews Philip and Briann with planting, combining, and chopping silage every summer-things he loved do. For twenty-two years, winters were spent in Harlingen, Texas. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and spending time with his winter friends and families from Minnesota, Wisconsin, and South Dakota.
In March of 2019, Howard moved back to the family farm at Pukwana, where he lived with Philip and Leanne. There he enjoyed time watching the next generation continue the legacy.
Those thankful for sharing his life are sister Wilma Lenards (Brandon) and families, sister-in-law Helen (Jerome) Larson (Sioux Falls) and families, Gerald Larson (Rockerville) and families, twenty-six nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
