Herbert "Herb" Kaufman age 90, of Mitchell, died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral service will be 2:00 PM Thursday, July 28, 2011 at the Will Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be 6 to 8 PM Wednesday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Delmont, SD. There will be a lunch served at 12:30 PM prior to the service at the Will Funeral Chapel, everyone is welcome. Herbert Kaufman son of Frank and Emma (Schwartz) Kaufman was born September 8, 1920 in Freeman, SD. At the age of 18 months he moved with his family to a farm near Delmont, SD and attended country school near there. Herb was united in marriage to Elsie Magdalena Will on January 28, 1942. They celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in January of 2010. Herb and Elsie farmed in the Delmont area for 15 years. In 1956 they moved to Mitchell, SD where Herb was employed as a construction foreman for Puetz Construction for 28 years. After retirement, he continued to work for Puetz on a part time basis for several years. Herb was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell, SD. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, pheasant hunting and gardening. Many people have enjoyed the results of his woodworking skills such as the beautiful jewelry boxes and fun candy dispensers among the many pieces he produced. Herb enjoyed times with his children and their families. Lyle Kaufman and wife Judy of Littleton, CO, Cheryl Mitchell of Boulder, CO (deceased), Arlys Dvorak of Sioux Falls, SD (deceased). Herb was very proud of his six grandchildren and their spouses, Jeff Kaufman and wife Dawn of Littleton, CO, Lisa Lindemann and husband Craig of Chicago, IL, Amy Taylor and husband Kelly of Sioux Falls, SD, Alex Dvorak, Sioux Falls, SD, Aaron Dvorak, Sioux Falls, SD and Eric Mitchell, Boulder CO and seven great grandchildren, Andrew, Evan and Cameron Kaufman of Littleton, CO, Cole, Alex, Olivia, and Blake Lindemann of Chicago, IL.; and brother Edwin Kaufman, Mitchell, SD. He was preceded in death by daughters Cheryl Mitchell and Arlys Dvorak and nine brothers and sisters. Dad, we will all greatly miss you and your friendly caring ways and your wonderful unique sense of humor.
