Helen Schulz, daughter of Ernst and Clara Nagel, was born in rural Hanson County, SD on September 6, 1918. She had an older sister Anna (Nagel) Storm, and a younger brother, George Nagel. They resided on a farm near Alexandria, SD.

Upon graduating high school, Helen helped nanny/babysit her neighbor's children. Given her experience in working with young children, Helen decided to pursue a college education to become a teacher. She obtained her teaching certificate from Springfield College, Springfield, SD. Later she attended Dakota Wesleyan University and received her teaching degree. She obtained more teaching credits by going to Dakota State University in Madison, SD.

On August 24, 1947, Helen was united in marriage with Herbert Schulz in Alexandria, SD. They lived on a farm near Alexandria, SD before moving to the Fulton area. They continued to farm while Helen taught in several country schoolhouses in Hanson County as well as Rockport Colony and later in Farmer. She retired from teaching in 1981 and received an Executive Proclamation from Governor William Janklow for her 31 years of teaching.

Herbert and Helen had three children, Ronald Schulz, Ruth Olinger and Carolyn Klinkhammer. Helen has five grandchildren and now 10 great grandchildren. Helen was blessed with another great grandchild the same day she went home to Heaven. She loved her family dearly and always kept in close contact with them through visits, phone calls and holidays spent together.

One of Helen's favorite hobbies was crocheting. She crocheted many afghans for her family and donated many to nursing homes. Other activities that she enjoyed were gardening, playing Bingo and cards. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Helen also had a love for her cats and shared her love for cats with both her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed going on "outings" and visiting her family.

Helen joins her husband, Herbert Schulz in heaven as well as her sister, Anna Storm, brother, George Nagel, son-in-law, Bob Weber, her parents and may other beloved family and friends. She lives on through her three children, Ronald (Rhonda) Schulz, Mt. Vernon, SD, Ruth (Dan) Olinger, Alexandria, SD, Carolyn (Bill) Klinkhammer, Mitchell, SD; a daughter-in-law, Diane Schulz, Mitchell, SD; five grandchildren, Darcy (Terry) Deinert, Chad Schulz, Nicole (Adam) Popp, Laura (Curtis) Wong and Ashley (David) Brua as well at 10 great grandchildren. She will be remembered and cherished in our hearts.
