Obituary

Helen Maude Standinger Hansen ,86 Mitchell died Tuesday February 5, 2008, at Emerald Crest of Burnsville, Minnesota. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mitchell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Will Funeral Chapel, Mitchell with a 7 p.m. Scripture reading. She was born on January 24, 1922 to Maude and George Standinger in New Richland, Minnesota. She graduated from Winona State Teachers College in Winona, MN in 1942. She taught school in Good Thunder Minnesota before following the boys to California during WWII teaching K-Primary school near the beaches of Southern California. She returned to Minnesota, and it was while teaching in St. James, MN she caught the eye of a young police officer recently discharged from the army and, the rest is history as they say. She married Raymond E. Hansen on November 15, 1947. They moved their family to Mitchell, South Dakota in August 1956 where she and Ray raised 6 children. She worked and managed the Hallmark Store throughout the 70s. She was a lifetime member of Holy Family Catholic Church, volunteered many hours at Holy Family Grade School and at St. Joseph Hospital, and an avid Bridge card player. She is survived by 5 of her children: Kristi Mazurkiewicz, Portland, Oregon; John and wife Linda Hansen, Sioux Center Iowa, Jim and wife, Rita Hummel-Hansen, Puyallup, Wash; Cindy Linafelter, Lakeville, Minn., and Bob and his wife Gwen Hansen, Lakeville, Minn.; 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Mickey and infant son, a grandson, and one brother.
