Obituary

Helen Rose Garvis, age 94, of Ethan, died Feb. 23, 2006 at the Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ethan on Monday at 10:30 AM with burial at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Ethan. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, February 26, 2006 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service & rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. Helen was born on August 7, 1911 at Ethan to Anton and Catherine (Brings) Degen. She attended school and graduated from Ethan High School. She married Homer Garvis on January 31, 1933. They farmed west of Ethan. She worked at Mikes Corner Cafe part-time. Following her husbands death in 1977, she moved to Ethan. She moved to Avera Brady Health and Rehab on February 6, 2006. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Altar Society, the Harry Weeks Aid, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Ethan Senior citizens and Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and playing cards and slots. Her family and grandchildren were her greatest enjoyment. She is survived by her children: Donald Garvis and wife, Janette, Ethan; Eldon Garvis, Ethan; Joan Garvis, Cle Elum, Washington; Mary and husband, Pat Shevlin, Columbus, Nebraska and Ruth Daley, Mitchell; fifteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Homer, in 1977; a daughter, Elaine; a son, Charles; a brother, Joe Degen; 2 sisters, Anne Tyler and EvaVirnig; a grandaugter, Mary Dawn Garvis and a grandson, Jason Charles Daley.
