Obituary

Hazel Lucille Moller, age 99 of Mitchell, died Thursday, September 2, 2010 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 11:00 Tuesday, September 7th at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon with burial at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Monday at Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM.

Lucille was born on March 29, 1911 in Vermillion, SD to Fred and Olive (Albers) Oakley. At the age of 4 she moved with her parents to a ranch north of Mt. Vernon. This is where she grew up and attended Mt. Vernon High School and graduated in 1929. She pursued her education and graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in 1931 with a teaching degree.

She married Clarence Moller on June 25, 1943 in Dell Rapids, SD. They moved to a farm south of Mt. Vernon. She taught in area country schools, Stickney Public and Mt. Vernon Public schools. Clarence and Lucille became insurance agents selling for Davison Farm Mutual, DeSmet Farm Mutual and Austin Farm Mutual of Minneapolis. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon. She loved teaching little children and being with her family and grandchildren. In the fall of 2003 she moved to Mitchell. In 2006 she was honored at Dakota Wesleyan University for the 75th anniversary of her graduation.

Grateful for having shared her life are her two sons, Ronald and wife Eileen, Mitchell, SD and Craig and wife Betty, Mt. Vernon, SD; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2003, a sister Evelyn Asmusen, 2 brothers, Burdette Oakley and Melvin Oakley.
