Harvey Schutz age 90, of Mitchell died Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell. Funeral services will be 1:00PM Saturday, February 10, 2018 at First Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial with military rites will be at Graceland Cemetery.
Harvey Schutz, son of John and Rosina (Grosz) Schutz, was born January 1, 1928 in Eureka, SD. He grew up and attended school in Eureka, graduating from Eureka High School. After his schooling, Harvey moved to North Dakota where he worked for a plumbing and heating contractor. Harvey entered the US Army on January 1, 1951 and served a year and nine months. He was honorably discharged on September 15, 1952. After his discharge, Harvey moved to Mitchell and was employed by Larson Distributing.
Harvey then began his career with the US Post Office, first as a clerk/carrier and then as a full time clerk. He retired after 32 years of service with the US Post Office.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church. In his spare time Harvey enjoyed fishing, stamp collecting, yard and garden work.
Harvey was united in marriage with Leda Carley on June 16, 1951 in Ozark, AL.
Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter, Laurie (Rick) Robey, Mitchell, SD; six grandchildren, Tara (Andy) Hanisch, Chaz (April) Johnson, Chelsea Johnson, Cole Johnson, Logan Schutz, Danielle Rutar; four great grandchildren, Joslyn Hanisch, Hayes Hanisch, Gage Johnson and Gwen Johnson.
Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Leda on August 8, 2012; two sons, Allen and Kevin; a daughter, Karen Rutar; a grandson, Anthony Hennings; three brothers and a sister.
