Harriet L. Burnham, age 89, of Mitchell, SD died Thursday October 27, 2011 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Monday October 31, 2011 at First Lutheran Church in Mitchell with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday October 30, 2011 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Harriet L. Burnham, daughter of Harry L. Johnson and Bertie L. (Olson) Johnson, was born November 22, 1921 at Geddes, SD. She attended country school and lived with her family on various farms in South Dakota and Minnesota. She was married to Raymond Burnham in 1941 in Abilene, TX. In 1943, Harriet made her home in Mitchell. She was employed at various retail stores in Mitchell including Jarold's Shop and as a checker at the Red Owl Grocery Store for 33 years. Harriet then worked at Syncom and in her retirement worked part time at Shopko. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crossword puzzles, but the apple of her eye were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Harriet was a member of First Lutheran Church. Grateful for having shared her life are her two sons, David (Pat) Burnham, Mitchell, SD, Dennis Burnham, Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren, Julie (Brad) Wermers, Brookings, SD, Scott (Jamie) Burnham, Grand Junction, CO; five great grandchildren, Spencer and Laura Wermers, Brookings, SD, Mason, Mari and Ian Burnham, all of Grand Junction, CO; two brothers, Lawrence Johnson, Mitchell, SD, Delmar (Mary Beth) Johnson, Sioux City, IA; two sisters, Donna (Gene) Farris, Mitchell, SD, Gelene (Gailen) Coates, Mitchell, SD. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Margaret; and a brother, Willis. Memorials may be directed to LifeQuest.
