Obituary

Harold G. Tastad, age 86, of Woonsocket, formerly of Mitchell, died September 30, 2006 at the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery with full military rites. Harold was born on February 29, 1920 on the family farm, rural Mitchell, to George and Minnie (Heinz) Tastad. He attended country school. He entered the US Army on February 13, 1942. He married Evelyn Klose on October 11, 1942 in Yuma, AZ. He served in the Army during WW II and was stationed in Europe. He was discharged on October 30, 1945. He returned and began selling cars at Loon Motors in Mitchell and later at Berry and Sons Motors. He was employed at LA Auto Supply and then Iverson Max where he retired in the mid 1990s. His wife Evelyn, died in 1970. Harold married Darlene Wenz on October 7, 1977, at California. They built their home in Letcher and resided there in the late 1970s. In 2000, the couple made their home in Huron and Harold lived at the Huron Nursing Home for a short time before entering the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket. His wife, Darlene, died on July 24, 2005. Harold enjoyed dancing, camping, and tinkering on cars. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Moose Lodge and was a former member of the First Lutheran Church. He is survived by three daughters: Bonnie (Mike) Kupchik, Big Canoe, Georgia; Kathy (Allan) Buresh, Castle Rock, Colorado and Vickie (Jim) Mayer, of Mitchell; four stepchildren David (Kris) Wenz, Letcher; Dean (Lorra) Wenz, Kiowa, Colorado, Todd (Melody) Wenz, Britton, SD; and Teri (Mark) Dyar, Sioux Falls; six grandchildren, five step grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren; three sisters: Darlene Baldwin, and Louise Anderson, all of Lakewood, California and Lola Burnett, Laguna Woods, California. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Barry, a brother, Laverne, both wives, and a sister, Maxine McCaleb.
