Harlan E. Vearrier, age 88, of Sioux Falls, SD (formerly of Plankinton, SD) died Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Plankinton United Methodist Church with burial at Mizpah Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Harlan E. Vearrier, son of Elmer and Elenor (Grimm) Vearrier, was born October 22, 1933 in rural Plankinton, SD. He grew up on the family farm and went to country school for his first 8 years, before graduating from Plankinton High School in 1951. Harlan joined the US Marines where he was an amphibious track driver for the 3 rd Amphibian Tractor Battalion, 1 st Marine Division, Camp Pennington, CA. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to South Dakota and started farming north of Plankinton, SD. He continued to farm until 2001 and then worked for Cenex for 9 years.
Harlan was united in marriage with Shirley Fuerst in 1965.
He was involved in 4-H and attended 4-H Club Congress in Chicago, IL. Harlan served on the Plankinton Elevator Board and Belford Township board for many years.
He loved to go camping and fishing. Harlan loved to play cards, he said if you have a deck of cards, you always made friends.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Roger (Heather) Vearrier, Plankinton, SD, Michael (Amy) Vearrier, Bend, OR, Amy (Steve) Rens, Hammond, OR, Lee (Amanda) Vearrier, Olympia, WA; his grandchildren, Anthony Vearrier, Ashley (Jaxon) Schmidt, Addison Rens and Henry Rens.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Wayne Vearrier; a brother, Dennis Vearrier; and a sister, Lorena Andrade.
