Obituary

Hanna Stahlecker, age 106 of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday October 29, 2008 at her residence. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church with burial at 1:30 PM Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Delmont, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:30 PM.

Hanna Martha Magdalena Wasner, daughter of John Paul and Ida Martha (Wegehaupt) Wasner, was born in Minkouski, Germany on November 22, 1901. She was baptized on December 14, 1901 in Brieg, Germany. Hanna moved with her family to the United States and arrived in New York on June 2, 1906. The family traveled to Parkston, SD by train. They later made their home in Delmont, SD. Hanna attended grade school at Zion Lutheran Parochial School in Delmont, SD. She graduated from the 8th grade in 1915 from Emanual Lutheran Parochial School in Dimock, SD. Hanna later moved to Sioux Falls where she worked as a housekeeper and in a millinery shop. She then went to Des Moines, IA to attended the Kennedy School of Cosmetology. Hanna also worked in Younkers Department Store from 1928 to 1929.

Hanna was united in marriage with Arthur Stahlecker on July 18, 1929 at Zion Lutheran Church, Delmont, SD. They resided in Delmont and then moved to Mitchell, SD in 1937.

She became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell in 1937. Hanna was active in Martha Circle, Welfare, and LWML.  She served as the first chairwoman for LWML at Zion and was a delegate to the national convention in Denver, CO. Hanna was also a active member of the PTA.

Grateful for having shared her life are her three children Mary Bailey, Sunnyvale, CA, Norma Rew, Mitchell, SD, Gerald (Jo) Stahlecker, White Bear Lake, MN; 12 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Wasner Ondriezek, Deadwood, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur on June 28, 1994; her parents; a brother, William; and a great grandson, William Gilmore.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Hanna's name.
