Obituary

G reta was born to Carl and Hazel Burgener on May 5, 1934. She was raised on the family ranch in Powell, Wyoming. After high school, she attended college and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Leavenworth, KS with an RN degree. She met Ralph at a wedding dance, where it was love at first sight. The couple was married in 1958 and lived in Kansas until 1972, when Ralph took a job at a veterinary clinic in Mitchell. Greta and Ralph loved children and raising their family of twelve was Greta's true pride and joy. She embraced homemaking and once received the "Homemaker of the Year" award. She loved rocking babies until the very end, and was often found with a child on her lap and a crochet project at her side. Greta made countless blankets for family and friends over the years. She was also an avid sports fan and loved cheering for her favorite teams including the Mitchell Kernels. With children involved in Mitchell baseball, softball, basketball, football, volleyball, tennis, gymnastics and track, Greta could always be found in the stands cheering them on. She was officially named "baseball fan of the year" in 1979, but remained the biggest fan to her children and grandchildren for decades after. In addition to a love of sports, Greta was quite the card player. Playing bridge with her friends was a favorite way to spend an afternoon—especially when she won. She was also a strong Catholic and was a big supporter of Holy Family Church in Mitchell, where she and her family would take over entire rows of pews near the front every Sunday.

Grateful for having shared her life are her twelve children: Deb (Rick) Hohn, Michele Grosdidier, Kathy Fast, Dr. Jeff (Dr. Mary)Grosdidier, Dr. Jon (Jackie) Grosdidier, Dr, Mary (Billy) Toland, Dr. Jamie (Carey) Grosdidier, Aimee Grosdidier, Staci (Dr. Dave) Eggen, Dr. Jason (Dr. Shannon) Grosdidier, Jeremy (Kelly) Grosdidier and Jared (Nikki) Grosdidier. She was also a special grandma to 32 grandchildren: Nikki, Trevor (Dana), Kacee, Ashley (Cole), Travis (Tara), Tyler, Justin (Samantha), Jordan, Jesse, Jayden, Jenna, Kelsey (Adam), Jacob, Morgan, Josie, Reese, Lance, Jace, Josh, Sam, Kate, Ben, Riley, Tatum, Karah, Logan, Dylann, Jaxon, Dawsyn, Finley, Jett and Jayke. Greta was proud to boast ten great granddaughters: Haley, Adia, Connelly, Landry, McCall, Aryn, Avery, Bellamy, Paityn and Tenley. She is also survived by two sisters, Bobbi (Les) Cloninger, Deb (Denny) Havig, and a sister-in-law, Kay Burgener. Greta also opened up her home and her lap to the dozens of bonus "grandkids" she babysat over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Ralph, her parents, Hazel and Carl, a brother, Gary, and a sister Marilyn.
