Obituary

Goldie Worthing, age 99, of Ethan, died Friday, March 25, 2005 at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Armour, SD. Byron Worthing age 76, of Oregon died May 3, 1984 in Portland, OR. Funeral services for Goldie and Byron will be 2:00 PM Tuesday March 29, 2004 at Ethan United Methodist Church with burial at Hillcrest Cemetery in Ethan, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Goldie Harvey, daughter of Heulid and Mary Elizabeth Harvey, was born March 4, 1906 in Havana, IL. She graduated from Ethan High School in 1926 and later graduated from St. Joseph Hospital as a registered nurse in 1929. Byron LeRoy Worthing, son of Fred and Susan Worthing was born September 22, 1908 in Mitchell, SD. The couple was united in marriage on June 1, 1932 in Elk Point, SD. Goldie was employed as a nurse for Dr. William Delaneys office until 1936 when the couple moved to Salem, OR. In Salem the couple was involved in the hardware business. Bryon enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942 and was discharged in 1945. During this time Goldie was employed at a hospital in Illinois. Upon Byrons return the couple purchased a hardware store in Oregon and continued to operate the store until Byrons retirement. Byron died suddenly on May 3, 1984. After his death Goldie moved to Ethan, SD then to Storla Sunset Nursing Home and finally to Beverly Healthcare Center in Armour, SD. They are survived by nieces and nephews. Goldie was preceded in death by her husband; and one sister, Pearl Maloney.
