Glenda J. Pekas, age 71, of Mitchell, SD (formerly of Parkston, SD) died Thursday March 4, 2010 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Graveside services will be 3:00 PM MST Tuesday at Blackhills National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Glenda J. Hille, daughter of Emmanuel and Emelia (Freier) Hille, was born June 13, 1938 in Douglas County, SD. She grew on the family farm and attended country school in rural Parkston, SD. Glenda then attended school in Parkston, and graduated from Parkston High School in 1956. After her schooling, Glenda helped on the family farm and worked various jobs for neighbors.
She was united in marriage with Charles Pekas on November 30, 1958 in Parkston, SD. The couple made their home in Tripp, Scotland and then Yankton, while Charles was attending school in Springfield, SD. In 1961 the couple moved to a farm southwest of Parkston and later in the Parkston/Delmont area. While on the farm, Glenda worked as a waitress, cook and farmwife. In 2009 they moved to Mitchell and made their home there.
Glenda will always be remembered as a wonderful cook and baker. She was a selfless volunteer and willing to lend a hand to friends and family.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Charles Pekas, Mitchell, SD; three children, Jeffrey Pekas, Norfolk, NE, Bradley (Robyn) Pekas, Tampa, FL, Amy Weiss, Livonia, MI; four grandchildren; a brother, Junior Hille, Mitchell, SD; a sister, Gloria Hoffman, Sioux Falls, SD; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
