Glen Digerness, age 82. of Mitchell, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at the Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, October 31, at the First Lutheran Church in Mitchell with burial at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery with Military Rites. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Sunday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Glen was born on December 10, 1928 in rural Letcher to Harlen and Grace Digerness. The family moved to the Mt. Vernon area in 1936 where he attended school and graduated in 1947. Glen married Iola Metzger on October 14th 1951 and was drafted into the Army on December 5, 1951 and served in Korea until his discharge as a Tech Sargent in November of 1953. Upon his return home Glen worked for the Farmers Union Elevator and the city of Mt. Vernon thru 1958. The family then moved to Madison, SD where he worked at the Farmers Elevator, another transfer took them to Farmer, SD and later to Parkston. In 1964, they moved to Mitchell and he began a very successful career as an insurance agent, working for several different companies, until retiring due to health reasons. Throughout his insurance career which was 30 years, he received many performance awards and several overseas trips for outstanding productivity. He was a lifelong member of the First Lutheran Church and had served as a council member. He is survived by his wife Iola of Mitchell; son Jeff (Kathy) Digerness of Alexandria and daughter Susan Schroeder of Gregory, SD; three grandchildren, one step grandson and two step granddaughters; brother Berdell (Delores) Digerness of St. Paul. MN. and sister Beverly Pawlowski of Sioux Falls; several nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his parents.
