Gladys "Dot" Styles, age 91, of Mitchell, SD past away Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at her home under hospice care.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Servicemen's Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday, November 18, 2023 at the Will Funeral Chapel.

Gladys "Dot" Styles, daughter of Solmon and Mary (Church) Wood, was born in Mitchell, SD on February 2, 1932.  She grew up in Mitchell and attended school graduating from Mitchell High School in 1950.  After her schooling, she was called upon by her sisters to watch her nieces and nephews while they worked.

Gladys was united in marriage with Orval Styles on January 29, 1951 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mitchell, SD.  The couple made their home in Mitchell.  Shortly after their marriage, Orval was drafted and served in the Korean War. After his return the couple lived in Draper, SD for a short time before returning to Mitchell.  In 1968 they moved to California.  The family returned to Mitchell in 1977.  In Mitchell, Gladys was employed at Sunshine Food Store for a short time working with friends and enjoying the elderly and other customers.

Gladys will be remembered as a person of faith which she showed and lived.  Her many hours with the Lord was astounding.  She was the backbone of the family and was always there for them and one who was able to speak her mind.    She loved her dogs, playing solitaire with a good old fashion deck of cards, and playing block puzzle on the tablet.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Kathy (Mike) Brookbank, Mitchell, SD, Jim (Janet) Styles Crooks, SD, Doug (Naomie) Styles, Snowflake, AZ, Gary (Tammy) Styles, Mitchell, SD; 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; a brother, Herb (Dottie) Wood, Wood River, NE.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orval in 2002; her parents; a brother, Harlan; six sisters, Mary Ella, Fran, Willa, Florence, Jessie and Carol Ann.
