Jerry (Gerald) Harry Weeden of Mitchell SD, passed away Tuesday March 16, 2021 at Avera Heart Hospital. A memorial service will be held Thursday March 25, at 10:00 AM with refreshments following.
Jerry was born June 17, 1936 to Raymond and Mildred (Applegate) Weeden at Fitkin Hospital, in Neptune New Jersey (NJ). He grew up in Wall Township NJ, and attended Manasquan High School in the mid 1950's. He then joined the Naval Reserves. Jerry married Rita Clauberg on August 2, 1958 in Adelphia NJ, and the couple lived in Spring Lake Heights NJ. He was a bookkeeper at New Jersey Natural Gas Company from 1958 until 1978. Jerry and Rita moved to Mitchell SD in 1978, after purchasing the KOA Campground 3 miles east of Mitchell. They operated the campground until 2006.
Jerry was a dedicated Boy Scout and played trumpet in high school. He coached Little League Baseball and was an avid NY Yankee fan. He liked fishing, hunting deer and pheasant, and also enjoyed model trains and woodworking hobbies. Jerry and Rita also enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and wintering in Florida.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children, Mark Weeden and Kim (Randy) Heidinger-Hughes; brother Raymond (Jean) Weeden; grandchildren, Brandon (Molly) Manchester, Jason (Elizabeth) Heidinger, Eric Heidinger, Cory (Amanda) Weeden and Chase (Paige) Weeden; great grandchildren, Eva Heidinger and Adelyn Weeden.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
