Gerald T. Shafranek age 79, of Peoria, AZ formerly of Letcher died July 28, 2010 at Peoria Good Shepard Care Center in Peoria, AZ. Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM Monday, August 9, 2010 at the Letcher Community Church in Letcher. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Church. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery, rural Letcher with military rites. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel.

Gerald T. Shafranek was born in Letcher on December 17, 1930 to Charles and Edna (Parsons) Shafranek. Gerald grew up and received his education and graduated from Letcher High School. After graduation he entered the US Army on November 29, 1949. After receiving multiple wounds to the left shoulder in Korea he was awarded the Purple Heart and Gerald was discharged on February 4, 1953. Gerald reenlisted in the Army and spent a total of 26 years until his retirement in 1973, where he made his home in Arizona.

Grateful for sharing his life are his two brothers Charles J. Shafranek of Letcher and Dale R. and wife Clara of Aquanga, CA.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.
