Gerald L. Miiller 71, of Mitchell died Monday, April 9, 2018 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital from a stroke with family at his side.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10:30 AM Friday, April 13, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell.

Gerald was born on November 30, 1946 to Milen and Sylvia (Hohn) Miiller in Parkston, SD. He attended Prosper #8 School and Mitchell High School graduating in 1964. He also attended Dakota Wesleyan University while farming with his father and brother.

On April 10, 1969 he married Julie Westendorf at Holy Family Catholic Church, to this union three children were born Scott Edward in South Dakota and Melissa Maria and Angela Dawn in Colorado.

He worked for Randall's Food Store for several years, after which he moved to Sioux Falls and worked for Getten's Red Owl. In 1972 he moved his family to Colorado and went to work for Coors Container Company. In the 1980's he went to work for the State of Colorado retiring in 1999.

Gary's favorite times was spending it with his family whether it was traveling with Julie or being with his kids and grandchildren in Colorado or at their beloved cabin in the Black Hills which was a ritual several times a year. He loved cruising Pactola Reservoir with his cabin cruiser, and just enjoying the scenery! Hunting was a passion with his daughter Angie on the farm and in the Black Hills.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife of 49 years Julie; son Scott and special friend Steff of Arvada, CO, daughters Melissa (Josh) Augustin of Arvada, CO, Angela Miiller and special friend Matt of Lennox, SD; mother Sylvia Miiller of Mitchell, SD; grandchildren Triston Miiller, Ryleigh and Emersyn Augustin of Arvada, CO, Jordan, Dylan and Alexa of Mitchell, SD; brother Darwin (Cheryl) Miiller of Salem, SD; sisters Shirley Hendrix and Cheryl Miiller of Mitchell, SD; sister-in-laws Mary (Richard) Holmes, Sheri (Rick) VanOverschelde and Betsy VanZee; brother-in-law Richard (Cindy) Westendorf.

He was preceded in death by his father Milen Miiller and his in-laws Donald and Jeanne Westendorf; brother-in-law William Hendrix.
