George F. Loomer, age 91, of Madison, SD, formerly of Alexandria, died on May 29, 2014 at Bethel Lutheran Home in Madison, South Dakota. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, June 2, 2014 at the Alexandria United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Greenhill Cemetery with military rites. George was born on December 30, 1922 to Gilbert and Marian (Montgomery) Loomer. He graduated from Alexandria High School in 1940. After graduation he enrolled in college at SDSU. He was drafted into the service 1943 and served in the Navy for 3 ½ years. He returned to SDSU and completed college. George married Helen Pommer in September of 1950. He graduated U of M Mortuary Science in 1950. After graduation he returned to Alexandria where he joined his father and uncle in the family business, Montgomery's Furniture and Funeral Home. After his father and uncle retired, he and his brother took over the business. George was an active member of the American Legion Post #0041 for 66 years. He received his 50 year membership pin from the South Dakota Funeral Directors Association. He was a member of the Alexandria Masonic Lodge #37 for 67 years; the Royal Arch Masons; and the El Raid Shrine of Sioux Falls. He was a member of the Methodist and Presbyterian Church. In 1986, George moved to Madison, SD. There he opened the Furniture Factory where he worked until retirement. He supported the DSU booster club. He was instrumental in forming the DSU pep and concert band. He was a member of the Madison Elks Club for 17 years. George is survived by 4 daughter; Sandra (Mike) Durick of Ft. Pierre, Diane (Jeff) Rausch of Pierre, Connie (Clark) Sinclair of Madison, and Vickie (Arlie) Loomer Gill of Sioux Falls. His grandchildren include; Kara (Tim) Johnson, Damon (Steph) Durick, Brett (Jenny) Durick, Kristin (Scott) Hangebrauck, Kyle (Jesyna) Rausch, Matt (Lindsay) Sinclair, Eric (Neala) Sinclair, and Katelyn Gill. He has 13 great-grandchildren. He is survived by one brother, Jim Loomer.
