George Willard "Willie" Davies, age 94, formally of Mitchell, died February 28, 2013 in Yankton, SD. Graveside services will be held at Serviceman's Memorial Cemetery at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, March 5, 2013. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. George Willard "Willie" Davies, son of John and Mabel (Jorgenson) Davies, was born January 9, 1919 at Mitchell, SD. He grew up and received his education in Mitchell, graduating from Mitchell High School. After his schooling, Willie was employed as a mechanic at Rozum Motor Company. On October 1, 1940 Willie entered the US Army and served in the Pacific Theatre during World War II with the 147th. He was honorably discharged on July 6, 1945 and returned to Mitchell. He was united in marriage with Lucile Krogman and the couple farmed near Fulton, SD. Later Willie began driving truck and continued to drive truck for 40 years retiring at the age of 81. After his retirement, Willie made his home at Meadow Lawn Plaza in Mitchell for 10 years and then moved to an assisted living center in Salem, SD. Willie later became a resident the Golden Living Center in Salem, SD. Grateful for having shared his life are his four sons, Stanton Davies, Watertown, SD, Ronald Davies, California, Monte Davies, Elkhart, IN, Dennis Davies, Mitchell, SD; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Eleanor, Bonnie, Lucille, and Bessie; and a brother, John "Milton"; and a great grandchild.
