Dr. George John Carstens age 75, of Dallas, TX, died March 29, 2007 at Richardson Regional Medical Center, Dallas, TX. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church. Dr. George John Carstens, son of George and Martha (Gruenewald) Carstens, was born in Mitchell, SD on May 17, 1931. He attended school in Mitchell and still maintained friendships with many of his classmates. George attended the University of South Dakota and then the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He practiced medicine in ONeill, NE for fourteen years. Some of his fondest memories came from those days. Dr. Carstens moved his family to Richardson, TX in 1972. He continued to practice in Dallas after completing a residency in Radiology at Saint Paul Hospital. Dr. Carstens was head of Radiology at Morton Hospital. Dr. Carstens was devoted to his family and took great joy in seeing his eight grandchildren. He was an excellent golfer in his younger days and also a private pilot. After retirement, he enjoyed weekends at the lake house. He was an honest man of great integrity and most importantly he was full of love and kindness. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Carleen; his three sons, Dr. George Carstens and family of Tulsa, OK, Dr. Paul Carstens and family of Marble Falls, TX, David Carstens and family of Plano, TX; his sister, Marilyn Barton, Denver, CO. He will be dearly missed and remembered. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Martha Carstens.
