Gayle Louise Buss, age 68 of Mitchell, SD died Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Avera St. Benedict Health Center in Parkston, SD after a hard fought and courageous battle with lymphoma and leukemia. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at Will Funeral Chapel. Gayle Louise Buss, daughter of Edward and Rita (Jacobs) Steiner, was born in David City, NE on December 14, 1946. She graduated from Scotus Central Catholic High School in Columbus, NE. Gayle was united in marriage with Henry Edward Buss on November 6, 1968 in Columbus, NE. Gayle and Henry had four children and made loving homes for their family in several locations, including Columbus, NE, Omaha, NE, Pawnee City, NE, Broadland, SD, Huron, SD, Alexandria, SD and most recently in Mitchell, SD. During this time, Gayle also used her mathematical skills while employed as a corporate payroll bookkeeper, an ASCS Program Representative and a livestock market bookkeeper. She was active and athletic throughout her life, enjoying and engaging in sports and activities with her husband and family. She ran every day for years, played softball and enjoyed swimming, cycling and golfing. Gayle loved playing word and number games with family. She was a devoted grandmother, and loved anything to do with her grandchildren. Gayle excelled in everything to do with homemaking, yardwork and gardening. She kept and immaculately clean and beautiful decorated home. She delighted in gardening vegetables, fruits and flowers. Gayle was an excellent cook, imparting healthy and delicious cooking wisdom to her children and grandchildren. Thankgivings and Christmases were highlighted by Gayle's delicious meals and holiday-festooned home and yard. Gayle's strength, wisdom and passion for life will live on through her children and grandchildren. She will be missed, but never forgotten. Gayle is lovingly remembered and survived by her husband of 46 years, Henry Edward Buss, Mitchell, SD; four children, Nicole (Ray Wollman) Buss, Rochester, MN, Megan (Matt) Bernau, Sioux Falls, SD, Henry (Mary Manion) Buss, Mitchell, SD, Katie (Adrian Laurendeau) Buss, Mitchell, SD; her grandchildren, Emma Buss, Connor Buss and Isabelle Buss, all of Mitchell, SD; four brothers, Jack (Kay) Steiner, Mike Steiner, Dan (Jackie) Steiner; one sister, Donna (Bruce) Edwards. She was preceded in death by her parents. Special thanks to the staffs at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN; Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell, for leading Gayle in her fights against cancers; Avera St. Benedict Health Center in Parkston, SD, for providing Gayle with compassionate palliative care in her final days.
