Gary R. Palmer, 64, of Mitchell, died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at his home under hospice care. Visitation will be 2 to 4 PM Saturday at the Will Funeral Chapel. Per Garys request there will be no funeral service. Gary R. Palmer, son of Alvin and Pauline (Martensen) Palmer, was born September 5, 1943 in Mitchell, SD. He grew up and attended school in Mitchell. Gary was united in marriage with Darlene Buck on October 19, 1963 in Mitchell. He was employed as a fireman at the Mitchell Fire Department and later was a car salesman at Western Chevrolet until 1976. In 1976, Gary purchased Pheasants Locker and was the owner-operator of the business until 1991. He then began his employment with Toshiba as a custodian. He retired in 2008 due to ill health. He enjoyed deer and pheasant hunting; training dogs and 4-wheeling. He was as a member of the NRA, the Mitchell Trap Club, Pheasant Country, which he helped establish, and was a former member of the Moose and Elk Lodge. He is survived by his wife Darlene Palmer, Mitchell, SD; two sons, Tracy (Karla) Palmer, Mitchell, SD; Casey (Sarah) Palmer, Lincoln, NE; two grandchildren, Tara and Cole Palmer, Mitchell, SD; one brother, David (Pam) Palmer, Mitchell, SD; and a sister, JoAnn Wehrkamp, Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert, and a sister Joyce Lehew.
