Gary Dean Carlson, 84, of Mitchell passed away on Monday May 12, 2025 at his residence. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Will Funeral Chapel; visitation will begin one hour prior. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Gary Carlson, the youngest son of Clarence and Esther (Runge) Carlson; was born April 12, 1941, in Kimball, SD.

He moved to Mitchell with his parents in 1957.

He partnered with his brother, laying carpet for many years and was known as one of the best installers in the business.

Gary enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles and taking care of animals. He was best friends with all of the birds and squirrels in his yard. He enjoyed cooking and made wonderful food for family.

Gary took care of his ailing mother until her death.

In his later years, he shared companionship with his dog Shellie and cat Molly.

He is survived by his sister, Beverly Yates, Mitchell, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by both parents; brother, Frederick Carlson; and niece, Judith Yates.
