Gail J. Buck, age 49, of Mitchell, died Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital after a short courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday January 4, 2010 at Will Funeral Chapel with burial at Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.

Gail J. Buck, daughter of Dwayne and Marlene (Johnson) Schmidt, was born April 24, 1961 in Worthington, MN. She attended school in Worthington until the 3rd grade. Gail then moved with her family from Mitchell where she attended Longfellow Grade School and graduated to Mitchell High School in 1979. Gail then attended Dakota Wesleyan University.

On April 29, 1989 Gail was united in marriage with David Buck in Mitchell, SD. She worked at Firesteel Healthcare Center and then was self employed as a daycare provider for 17 years until she retired last August.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Dave Buck, Mitchell, SD; her mother, Marlene Schmidt, Sioux Falls, SD; a daughter, Stephanie (Jason) Johansen, Mitchell, SD; two sons, Brandon Buck, Marion, SD, Bryan Buck, Mitchell, SD; three grandchildren, MacKenzie, Ryley and Brookelynn; two sisters, Tracy Schmidt, Hermitage, TN, LeAnn (Rick) Barlow, Schaumburg, IL; two brothers, Jeff (Jenny) Schmidt, Lakeville, MN, Gary (Paula) Schmidt, Sioux Falls, SD; six nephews and several cousins.

Gail is preceded in death by her father, Dwayne; and a brother, Mike Skare.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be donated to the Heart and Sole Cancer Assistance.
