Obituary

Freda Dodd, 95, of Mitchell, died December 6, 2005, at the Avera Brady Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be held at the Salem Lutheran Church in Mt. Vernon on Saturday, December 10, at 10:30 AM. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Freda was born near Letcher on a farm on July 28, 1910 in Sanborn County to Otto and Ella (Krause) Shay. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She grew up in the Loomis area and attended the Loomis Country School. She worked at various jobs in Mitchell. Freda married George Dodd on November 29, 1936, in Davison County. Because of Georges job in construction, the couple made their home in various states. They made their home on a farm north of Mt. Vernon, in 1944. They farmed until 1966 and semi-retired on the farm. Her husband died in 1974 and she moved to Mitchell in 1981 and later to Wesley Acres. In 1999, she moved to the Storla Sunset Nursing Home and in 2004 to Avera Brady. She was a former member of the Victor Lutheran Church, and the Salem Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the Ladies Aid. She was a member of the Kensington Club for 30 years. She loved to embroider and do gardening. She is survived by her children: LeRoy Dodd and wife, Lydella, Mt. Vernon, and Adonna Hetland and husband, Royce, Plankinton; four grandchildren: Patti Cornelius (Mark), Franklin, TN, Brian Dodd (Susan) Mt. Vernon; Daren Hetland (Cara) Sioux Falls and Brent Hetland (Heidi Jo), Durham, NC; ten great grandchildren; Erik, Nathan, Shay, Gabrielle, Jesse, Hunter, Bailee, Taylor, Carlee and Adam; and a sister-in-law, LaRayne Dodd, Plankinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1974, a grandson, Ricki Dodd, two brothers, Arthur and Lewis, four brothers-in-law, and five sisters-in-law.
