Fred G. Buchmann, age 87, of Mitchell, died November 9, 2006, at the Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Ascension Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mitchell. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Monday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7 PM. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Fred was born July 16, 1919 in rural Freeman, SD to Frederich and Elizabeth (Schmidtgall) Buchmann. He was baptized at Unity Lutheran Church, rural Freeman and confirmed at St. Peters Lutheran Church, ruraly Clayton, SD. He was one of the last ones confirmed in the German language at St. Peters. He attended school in rural Freeman for eight years. The school was located on the land owned by his parents. He helped with the farming which he eventually took over and spent approximately 83 years on this farm. During these years the joy of his life was his one man operation of gravel mining and delivering to farms and visiting. He was also an avid bowler and horseshow player. On January 18, 1970, he married Vivian Hafner at the home of her father and for the next 30 some years took up residentcy at Fritzis home farm. In 1999, they moved to Mitchell, SD and at this time were residents of Tender Hearts Assisted Living. He is survived by his wife, Vivian, of Mitchell, nieces, Lydia Anderson (Pete), Esther Mullinex; nephews: Pastor Kenneth Schamber (Diane) and Kermit Schamber (Muriel), Harold Buchmann, Robert Buchmann (Dianna) and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, two sisters, four nephews and one niece.
