Franklin (Frank) James Nase was born on October 7, 1981 to Kent and Marilyn (Roth) Nase in Armour, SD. The family moved to Mitchell, SD in 1984. He started school in Mitchell. In 1988, he moved to Southeastern Directions for Life in Sioux Falls, SD and this became his permanent home. He enjoyed weekends and holidays visiting his family in Mitchell. He was challenged by epilepsy and autism. He passed away on July 1, 2016 at Sanford Hospital after experiencing his final seizure. He was able to continue to give hope to others through organ donation.
Frank was a very kind, loving, strong but gentle and entertaining person. He loved giving hugs to anyone and everyone, even strangers. He gave the very best hugs. He had limited speech, but he had his own phrases that were entertaining and were named "Frankisms". "Hamburger Fries" meant he wanted to play with PlayDoh, which was his favorite pastime and you would be lucky if he shared with you. He answered the phone with "Hot Lunch." If he farted, he would say "Don't fart at the table", or blame it on the person next to him. He liked to tickle and he is "gonna get you first". And "Don't tease the dog" meant to leave him alone. He also liked to remind people, " Your Name …don't poop your pants". He also insisted on being helpful, so if you needed something picked up, he had to be involved. He loved He-Man and Scooby Doo and tried to repeat phrases from the shows. He liked to make people laugh with him by saying silly things and making silly faces. He had a lot of friends and even what we liked to call his girlfriends. He adored the staff and clients at Southeastern Directions for life. Despite his disabilities, he had the ability to touch so many lives in very positive ways. He could brighten your darkest days. He could make you realize that life is about loving others and enjoying the small things. It is amazing to think the positive impact he had on all of our lives. He was given the gift of loving others and the ability to comfort others. He was very generous with these gifts. To know Frank, was to know the true meaning of love. He will be missed dearly by many.
He is survived by his mother, Marilyn Roth of Mitchell, SD; siblings, Eric Nase of Mitchell, SD, and Abby (Chris) Peterson of White River, SD; nephews, Blake and Brandon Peterson of White River, SD and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Kent Nase; paternal grandparents, Arthur (Bud) and Linda (Nase) Nord; maternal grandparents, Marvin and Hilda Roth; step grandfather, Roger Nord; uncles, Alvin Roth and Ron McCuen.
