Obituary

Frances H. Kiepke, age 80, of Fulton, SD died Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Saturday May 3, 2008 at St. Martins Lutheran Church in Alexandria, SD with burial at Servicemens Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell, SD. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM Friday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service beginning at 7 PM. Frances Helen Bouska, daughter of Anton and Frances (Utpil) Bouska, was born August 3, 1927 at Gregory, SD. She attended grade school in Gregory and two years of high school in Gregory. The family moved to Colome, SD where she graduated from Colome High School in 1945. In June of 1945 she entered the Cadet Nurse Program at Methodist Hospital in Mitchell. Frances graduated with a RN Degree in 1948. She was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith in 1949 in Burke, SD. She was united in marriage with Arnold Kiepke on February 25, 1949. The couple lived in Wagner, SD until December of 1950 when Arnold was transferred to Mitchell with Bell Telephone. Frances was employed as Supervisor of Medical Ward at Methodist Hospital for two years and then worked as a private duty nurse until 1960. In 1960, Frances was hired by the Mitchell Public School System as a Clinical Instructor in the Practical Nursing Program, a position she held for 25 years. Frances served on the State Board of Nursing, served as President of VFW Auxiliary, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She received a grant from the American Cancer Society to study at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital in New York. Grateful for having shared her life are her four children, Paul C. (Susan) Kiepke, Mitchell, SD, Karel (Gene) Critel, Grand Island, NE, Richard (Judy) Kiepke, Woodinville, WA, Mary (Randy) Doyle, Alexandria, SD; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; one sister, Bessie Brozik, Rapid City, SD; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband, Arnie on December 9, 2006; her parents; three brothers, Joe, Tony and John in infancy; four sisters, Mildred Hurst, Mary Supik, Christine Maxey and Rose Magnuson.
