Floyd "Melvin" Fuerst, age 84 of Wessington Springs, SD , died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Westkota Manor in Wessington Springs, SD. Memorial services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs, SD, Reverend Michael Bagnall officiating . Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM. Arrangements are under the direction of the Will Funeral Chapel. Floyd "Melvin" Fuerst, son of Solomon and Pauline (Koenig) Fuerst, was born November 19, 1928 in Jerauld County, SD. Floyd entered the US Army on March 13, 1951 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on January 1, 1953. Floyd served in the Army Reserve for an additional eight years after his discharge. Floyd was united in marriage with Marilyn Jacobs on June 27, 1954 in White Lake, SD. The couple farmed in Jerauld County and later Floyd drove truck. He also repaired televisions in the Wessington Springs area. Floyd was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Marilyn, Wessington Springs, SD; six children, Craig (Linnea) Fuerst, Mitchell, SD, Cindy (Roland) Degen, Sioux Falls, SD, Dawn Fuerst, Rapid City, SD, Rickie (Rama) Fuerst, Huron, SD, Scott (Melanie) Fuerst, Pierre, SD, Tricia (Robert) Miller, Brandon, SD; 15 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Russel Fuerst.
